7 Aftercare tips for male genital piercing

Male genital piercing

As genital piercing is done at a sensitive area, adopting aftercare tips becomes essential. If aftercare is not done properly, the piercing can lead to severe infections and continuous bleeding. Here, we have shared, 7 aftercare tips for male genital piercings.

1.Restrain from sex

When you are advised to restrain from sex after genital piercing, do not think that you will never be able to have sex in your entire life. Actually stay away from sex till the wound gets healed completely or else you will be vulnerable to septic. The usual time for healing after the genital piecing is from two months to twelve months, depending on the person.

2. Keep the genital organ out of contamination

The healing process is faster after genital piercing only when you are careful about it. Avoid any activities that might make it susceptible to unwanted infectious growth. Some people have a bad habit of toughing out their genital organs unnecessarily. Others tend to fidget with things. Therefore, if you are among such men and often try to put your dirty hands on the piercing, you will be vulnerable to infections. Moreover, while urinating, men need to hold on to their genitals. All these increase the chances of health complications. So, ensure that your hands are properly cleaned and washed with anti-bacterial soap before you touch the genital.

3. Expel chances of bacterial growth

In general, the genital area is always covered. It is inevitable that when your body sweats, there will be sweat accumulation in your genital area. Moreover, while you urinate, there are possibilities of the subsequent urine deposit in the area too. All these encourage the growth of bacteria. Hence, it is extremely important that you stick to health and hygiene strictly. Clean and dress the piercing at least twice a day with mild antibacterial soap. Rinse the area properly during bath, by working up adequate lather and washing it scrupulously clean with clear and cold water. Do not rub the area vigorously or else there will be irritation and swelling.

4.Take special care on new piercing

After a month of piercing, the chances of infections and contamination are lessened as the area heals up considerably by that time. But during the initial few days, you must be extremely careful about the site of piercing. When the wound is raw there are greater chances of complications if you are not careful enough. Therefore, a great remedy for these initial days is to wash the area with a preparation of lukewarm water into which a pinch of salt is added. Rock salt or sea salt are better options for the purpose than common salt. Use a clean cotton ball to dip into this solution and wash the area gently.

5. Only cotton is recommended

While cleaning or swabbing your piercing, you should only use soft cotton balls as they are gentler on your skin. Further, the skin of the genital organ is much softer and delicate as compared to other parts of the skin. Thus, restrain from using other materials for the purpose, such as pieces of towels, wash cottons, gauge and sponge, etc. These are harsh on the skin and might hurt your wound. Further, due to the obvious rubbing action on the skin while cleaning, these materials can lead to the outbreak of rashes and reddening of the genital area too. Moreover, these materials trap mildew and bacteria.

6. Never allow direct contact with body fluids

When the wound is raw, avoid its direct contact with body fluids of other persons. Cover the genital organ with a dental dam or a condom so that is remains protected from things like saliva, semen and urine, etc.

7. Keep the jewelry clean

The jewelry that had been used as a medium of piercing, can lead to the formation of deposits around it, as a result of pus and fluid accumulation. Clean it with warm water and sponge every time you see it. Rotate the jewelry several times a day by creating lather around it so that it does not stick again with such depositions.
