Tattoo aftercare

Tattoos are popular among people of all ages, from young to old. Getting a tattoo, sparks an addiction to get more. While getting a tattoo from a known and hygienic shop is a priority, many forget that tattoo aftercare is equally significant. Here is a list of 5 easy steps to take care of your tattoo.

1. Remove the cellophane paper

Immediately after the tattoo design gets completed, the tattoo artist will cover the area with cellophane or plastic which should be removed only after a minimum of 3 to 4 hours depending on the amount of time the bleeding has appropriately ceased. Don’t rip off the cellophane bandage. Remove it carefully and make sure that you have use a suitable antiseptic lotion to clean the area. Also don’t rub the area but lightly dab it with cotton swabs on which diluted solution of an antiseptic has been poured.

2. Apply oil or lotion

After cleaning the area sufficiently, apply oil or lotion that can act as a suitable layer of covering to prevent the area from being exposed to dirt, dust and water. Generally, Vaseline or Coconut Oil do the trick successfully. You can also use any antiseptic lotion for faster healing. So, Vaseline during the day and antiseptic lotion for the night.

3. Cover the area before taking a bath

Make sure you cover the area well before having a bath. Water should not touch the surface of the tattooed area for a minimum of 14 days. If possible, wrap cellophane over the area or otherwise just use Vaseline or oil as explained above.

4. Avoid tight clothing

Do not, under any circumstance wear tight clothing over the area or cover it with anything that would restrict ventilation. Wear loose clothes if the tattoo is anywhere on your back, chest or leg and wear open shoes if the tattoo is on your foot. As long as you are sure you have applied oil or Vaseline, that is good enough protection.

5. Do not apply abrasive pressure on the tattoo-ed body part

Make sure that you do not apply any abrasive pressure on the area like sleeping on it, sitting on it, etc. Make sure you sleep on your stomach for about a fortnight to ensure that you do not accidentally rub the area against your bed by mistake. And no nocturnal activities either if you wish to avoid any brushing or scraping of the area.
