Tattoos nursing back Katrina wounds back to health in vain

The havoc caused by Hurricane Katrina is indelible and so are the tattoos that deck the skins of the survivors. More and more people are resorting to tattoos in an effort to melt the chaos in their minds and draw more strength out of the colors.

Tattoo artist Jay Lyons, Electric Ladyland Tattoos, truly says:

Katrina has moved people to do this more than anything else I’ve ever seen. We’re doing fathers and daughters together, older folks together. It’s a lot of people who would have under any other circumstances not come in here.

Survivors are trying to mask their scars under images of hurricane swirls, crumbling buildings, names of the dead or broken hearts, gushing floodwater and whatever had that horrifying impact on their lives.

How far the trend of inking the storm-related images has been successful is a debatable question. However, we believe that the trend is adding fuel to the fire and is making the residents remember the dreadfulness of the hurricane repeatedly. In stead of getting these memorial tattoos, which perhaps can never be a panacea for the survivors, people should go for invigorating tattoos to show their strength and perseverance and get out of the shock as soon as possible.
