Flickering reflections of Missouri’s tattoo regulations

tat girlsThe dubious tattoo regulations in Missouri have made things hard not only for the tattoo artists but also for enthusiasts, especially minors, who want to ink their skin at any cost. The city health department is now planning to ink new tattoo rules.

As per the 2003 regulations tattoo parlors can tattoo minors with their parent’s consent. But most of the artists like Mike Roland, of Body Accents in Joplin, who refuse to tattoo minors are facing parent’s wrath every now and then.

‘When you try to tell somebody that their kid can’t get a tattoo, they have a hard time understanding why,’ Roland said.

The whole confusion is due to the clash between the state codes and individual city codes, which are different. I just can’t understand why not a single comprehensive law regulating body art is made. It must not only target the issue of minors getting tattoos but also put checks on sterilization, pigments, equipments and all other issues related with the art.
