Check if your hepatitis immunizations are up to date.

4. Caring for the navel-piercing

a. Dos

i. As soon as you reach home after the piercing do not touch it or move the jewelry.

ii. Salt water soaks prove to be of great help. Buy non-iodized salt, put half tsp in one-fourth cup of cooled boiled water. Put this in a small cup, place it over your navel and bend over for about 15 min. It will help to stay away from infections. After this let it dry, do NOT use a towel to wipe away the water.

iii. Clean your navel 2-3 times daily.

iv. Change the jewelry only after the piercing gets healed.

v. Use waterproof bandages while swimming.

vi. Lavender and tea-tree oil help in quick recovery.

vii. If the piercing is infected then without any delay, fix an appointment with your doctor.

b. Don’ts

i. Try not to sleep on your stomach. Avoid this by placing pillows on your sides so if you roll over, pillows will avoid it.

ii. Avoid tight clothes till the piercing gets healed.

iii. Don’t use swimming pools, spas, hot-tubs, tanning bed as the fear of water (full of bacteria) reacting with the piercing prevails.

iv. Don’t let others touch the piercing.

v. Avoid Sleeping on your belly. Place pillows on your side while sleeping, so in case if you roll-over, the pillows will stop it.

vi. Avoid belly exercises during the workouts.
